The
execution of this work was intended to emphasise the sacrifice of
a man of our time, condemned to death after 55 days of forcible imprisonment
which brought him indescribable suffering to his spirit, but above
all to his mind.
The other faces besides that of Aldo Moro, which can be picked out
with careful observation, were not willfully created by the author,
but materialised during the course of the work.
That cross made from simple tree trunks just gathered, a cross which
is not beautiful, nor smoothed or polished by expert hands; is still
tree trunks with all their roughness, because that man was totally
abandoned to his ineluctable destiny by those who could have helped
him, a great mind miserably sacrificed.
That cross so conceived has a higher significance, in as much as the
branches still attached show his thoughts and his suffering, and that
hunched-up body bears witness to get away from that painful situation.
Without a shadow of a doubt, his last wish was a yearning for life.
That body on the cross with its face turned towards that gash of light,
as if to search for someone up there, who could hear his cry of pain,
bears witness in time to a dark period in our history.
Many speeches can be made from the elements characterize to you, if
that face that surpasses Aldo Moro were Albert Einstein, could be
asserted that, from the progress is been born the contexts, from the
contexts are been born the tragedies.
If he were Arturo Toscanini, that it has dedicated its life to music,
Aldo Moro has dedicated its life to politics, the Christ, has dedicated
its life in order to make to grow the Christian faith.
If it were Giuseppe Verdi, with its Nabucco declaimed to the unit
of Italy, Aldo Moro with its proposal of the historical pact tried

of the Christian faith, but if we want to consider it, an other consideration
still exists that, leaving from the cross symbol of the human tragedies
